What’s So Great About Bruce Lee’s Fighting Method: The Complete Edition DVD?

In 1974, four short books were launched covering the basics of Bruce Lee’s martial art form, Jeet Kune Do. When compared to books released these days, these four books would be viewed as cursory. However, when they were published, they were quite innovative. The DVD Bruce Lee’s Fighting Method: The Complete Edition is a video version of the first couple of books in the series, Self-Defense and Basic Training. In the DVD, a couple of Bruce Lee’s original students (Richard Bustillo and Ted Wong) are showcased. Visually, the DVD version does a great job of conveying the contents of the two books.

Although reading the print books is very highly recommended because of the value they deliver, the photographs in the books don’t really do justice with regards to effectively detailing the techniques that’re being taught. Between static photos and moving images, the latter win clearly. This is the reason the DVD edition of the books are recommended. It provides you with the clear display of the tactics from the books in a way which is easy to follow. While you won’t master the art from viewing the DVD, you will have a valuable learning resource you can use which can add to your ability to learn the art.

The Basic Training portion covers warm-ups and basic exercises to help you get the most out of your session. Jeet Kune Do basics are also dealt with in this portion of the DVD. The On-Guard (fighting) position, footwork, and basic defense and offense are only some of the Jeet Kune Do basics you’ll learn. Basically, you can consider this as an introduction to Jeet Kune Do. In the DVD’s Self Defense portion, you will get an introduction to the popular Jeet Kune Do moves, both offensive and defensive, which are specifically designed for handling street attacks and aggressive attackers. You will find this portion of the DVD interesting if you have always wanted to learn a couple of Bruce Lee’s moves and employ them in self-defense scenarios.

One of the good things about this DVD is that the narration is excellent. The voiceover narration clearly defines what is occurring on the DVD and you will not feel that you’ve missed out on anything while you listen to it while you watch the DVD. Regarding its production values, they are top-notch for this DVD. There are far too many martial arts training videos that’re poorly produced. Since this DVD was produced by Black Belt Magazine, the production budget was above what you would often see in the more amateurish video releases. What do production values have to do with the success of an instructional video? Everything! The instructions on a video won’t be conveyed effectively if the video has terrible production values. The video and sound quality of this video is top notch. You will not have to worry about it undermining the material’s presentation.

Serious martial artists should never go without at least watching Bruce Lee’s Fighting Method: The Complete Edition DVD one time. The DVD has excellent insights into Jeet Kune Do, the martial art form that Bruce Lee invented. Moreover, you are going to learn numerous basic self-defense techniques.
